Trier Eats

24 09 2017

From my day trip to Trier, Germany on one August day.

Wasn’t planning to but how can I pass a soft-serve?!

Local sparkling wine @ a pop-up shop in the middle of the main square. Wine manufacturers apparently take turns setting up shop throughout the year. All wines extremely reasonably priced.

Fast forward to the end of the day in Trier. Before returning to Luxembourg City, needed properly to try some local wines. This was a very good choice.

The restaurant had two separate rooms and entrances. This looked more like the front and was much more modern.  I was in the “back” room.

Arriving in Trier, Germany

12 09 2017

It’s just an hour journey east from Luxembourg City to Trier, one of the oldest cities in Germany with multiple monuments pronounced as World Heritage Sites, on the local train.  It was a short walk from the train station to the historical and commercial center of the city marked by an ancient Roman gate, Porta Nigra.

And inside the gate, a very cute city center.

Yet More of Luxembourg City

The second morning in Luxembourg City; another beautiful day.

And time for lunch.

And some supermarket browsing.

Walking in Luxembourg City: in the Old Town

21 08 2017

The first real day I was in Luxembourg was a brilliantly sunny day.  Here are some shots from my walk in the Old Town in the morning prior to lunch (how my clock works around meal hours).

A Walk, Breakfast & to Supermarket! in the Bonnevoie Neighborhood

15 08 2017

The neighborhood of Luxembourg City I am staying in is called Bonnevoie just southeast of the central station.  The morning after I arrived, I went out in search of breakfast and grocery.

Empty streets everywhere. Sunday morning it was but I believe it has more to do with the very small population of the city.

Where I was planning to get breakfast. Closed for the summer of course.

Very good pain au chocolat. The rhubarb quiche was unexpectedly too sweet.

Off to the local supermarket, Cactus.

Luxembourg wines

And bubblies

On the way back along a different route.

Between Tokyo, Amsterdam, and Luxembourg

13 08 2017

I don’t often write about my flying experience apart from being in airports but my flight between Tokyo Narita and Amsterdam Schiphol yesterday was serving wines with special labels (the wines were OK) so I had asked to take pictures of all of them (and tried all of them).

A collection of great Dutch painters.

And at Schiphol.

Light drizzle in Luxembourg but not too cold.

A Day in Grasse

9 08 2017

On the final proper day in France during my visit back in June, I had made plans to go up to Grasse to see an English/Scottish couple I know from work.

Situated about 20 km. north of Cannes, I had been to Grasse on a few occasions to eat but always only to go to the restaurant and straight back.  I was looking forward to do a proper visit.

After having done one meeting in Cannes, I was picked up by my friends and we drove up to Grasse.

Before reaching the town center, we stopped by Molinard’s perfumery/perfume museum, Grasse being famous for its perfumes.

Scenes from around the town center including a stop at the Fragonard Museum.

My friend Kathy recommended me this book (and which was made into a film) which takes place in Grasse.  We found it as a display in a shop.

Time for lunch.  Great food.

An after-lunch stroll.

And found a cat!

Wanted to go into the cathedral but there was a wedding going and we were not allowed in or so we thought but we probably could have gone in.  It was a beggar at the entrance that was “guarding” the church from people entering.

Time to hit the road.
