Farewell Iceland

23 09 2016

I had a chance to enjoy the Icelandic touch all over again as I was leaving from the Keflavik International Airport outside of Reykjavik for Tokyo via Paris.

Just after security where you might sit down and tie your shoelaces if you were told to take off your shoes. Love the color scheme.

At CDG, in transit. Terminal 1 is an unknown territory for me and this long (much longer than as shown) passage seemed very cool.

A Few More Lovely Houses in Reykjavik, Iceland

20 09 2016

There is not so much a “scheme” it seems but the city of Reykjavik, Iceland has very colorful and cute houses in neat shapes and rows. ¬†Love them.

Murals in Reykjavik, Iceland, a Street Art Form

19 09 2016

The many paintings on the walls of buildings in Reykjavik appear designed rather than being spontaneous.  I was told some are commissioned.  Either way, they seem full of life and very much a part of the city.

Back to My Icelandic Trip: a Visit to Hallgrimskirkja

18 09 2016

Hallgrimskirkja is that church that stands tall and visible from all over the city of Reykjavik, Iceland.  The architecture is magnificent and striking.  And the view from it, equally so.

Lunching with Asi in Reykjavik

11 09 2016

I wrote about my Icelandic friend Asi in an earlier post. ¬†We met up a few days after the first meeting and went out for lunch at the Grillmarka√įurinn or the “Grill Market” where I had previously made a reservation to visit on my own. ¬†Having company was great. ¬†ūüôā

The Most Amazing Reunion in Reykjavik, Iceland

10 09 2016

During my trip to Reykjavik, Iceland, I was posting photos on facebook and updating my status when I noticed that one of my facebook friends seemed to be visiting the city at the same time and she wasn’t just any facebook friends but a close friend from elementary school in Boston. ¬†The school was actually in Chestnut Hill, which is both Brookline and Newton, outside of Boston, and we were two new girls in a class of ten girls in the sixth grade when we met. ¬†Now, what is the likelihood that we would both be spending time in Reykjavik in the same week on vacation?! I mean I travel a lot and my friend, Lida, who’s been in the travel industry likes to travel but we’re not talking about New York or Paris. ¬†We were in Reykjavik!

We managed to hook up.  Thank you, facebook.

We were to meet here but Lida had gone to another branch of the same coffee shop!! But we met up at the end.

We were to meet here, the Starbucks of Iceland, but Lida had gone to another branch of the same coffee shop!! But we met up at the end.

Yay!! Saw each other for the first time in about 40 years. How about that.
