Trier Eats

24 09 2017

From my day trip to Trier, Germany on one August day.

Wasn’t planning to but how can I pass a soft-serve?!

Local sparkling wine @ a pop-up shop in the middle of the main square. Wine manufacturers apparently take turns setting up shop throughout the year. All wines extremely reasonably priced.

Fast forward to the end of the day in Trier. Before returning to Luxembourg City, needed properly to try some local wines. This was a very good choice.

The restaurant had two separate rooms and entrances. This looked more like the front and was much more modern.  I was in the “back” room.

From Luxembourg City, Luxembourg to Trier, Germany

10 09 2017

Luxembourg is such a small country that borders are very close which was one of the reasons why I decided to visit it and its capital so that I could visit Trier, Germany, a historic city with multiple World Heritage sites.

So I took a day out of my stay in Luxembourg City to visit Germany.

The night before my trip, went to get train tix for the next day.

The next morning, I took one of the trains that left around 9:30 am.

My ride

Arriving in Trier just after one hour journey

Churches in Luxembourg City

7 09 2017

I love visiting churches (Christian in this case) and just sitting there, taking it all in though I’m an atheist.

A few churches I visited during my stay in Luxembourg City this past summer.

Trinity Church, a Protestant church

St. Michael’s Church

A local, newish church. Not sure what it’s called!

The Notre-Dame Cathedral, all of below.

More of That Lovely Luxembourg City

31 08 2017

Continuing with the walk in Luxembourg City.

There is a cute touristy train you can take to go around the hilly city.

There is an elevator that takes you from the lower end of the city to the top end of it.

Love it.

Chillin’ Out in Luxembourg City

28 08 2017

This is the kind of moment I love about European summers and spending my vacation time in Europe, renting an apartment.

My first real evening in my apartment in Luxembourg City at 6 pm on Sunday, August 13, 2017.

Lunching in Luxembourg City

22 08 2017

I had not decided where to get lunch on my first day out in Luxembourg City which is not what I normally do on my holiday trips.  I did want something traditionally Luxembourg in terms of food and drinks.  I found the perfect restaurant on one of the main squares, the Place d’Armes, housed in a hotel.

Trying out a local bubbly

Beautiful

Looking out to the Dicks-Lentz Monument

A nice vibe at lunch time

Great bread

My homemade sausage and mash. The sausage was traditional I was told.

Strawberry sorbet? I forgot as it wasn’t great 😦

A Walk, Breakfast & to Supermarket! in the Bonnevoie Neighborhood

15 08 2017

The neighborhood of Luxembourg City I am staying in is called Bonnevoie just southeast of the central station.  The morning after I arrived, I went out in search of breakfast and grocery.

Empty streets everywhere. Sunday morning it was but I believe it has more to do with the very small population of the city.

Where I was planning to get breakfast. Closed for the summer of course.

Very good pain au chocolat. The rhubarb quiche was unexpectedly too sweet.

Off to the local supermarket, Cactus.

Luxembourg wines

And bubblies

On the way back along a different route.
