Movies! and Music! in the Month of October 2016

5 11 2016

Before I go talking about Yangon, Myanmar, here is what was happening in my world of music and film last month.

And here is one movie I did not get to see due to a work commitment despite having won tickets to a special screening at the Tokyo International Film Festival.  What’s more Hugh Grant (my ultimate favorite actor) and Meryl Streep were going to appear in person.

I did manage to get to the pre-viewing greeting session but it was just Meryl that came on the stage.  Hugh had another movie to shoot (good news) and sent a pre-recorded video message.  Sigh.

I have yet to see the film which opens on December 1 in Japan.

Music!

And movies!!

Cannot say which one was my favorite but this one was surprisingly funny.  And I don’t even like unrealistic plots but this was OK.

Here is the trailer for the David Bowie film which does not really do justice to the film which I thought was more interesting than the trailer seems to suggest.

And films during the same period.

This month’s surprise hits were St. Vincent and Who am I – Kein System is Sicher, the latter being a German film from which I was not expecting anything.  It had a clever storyline and was highly entertaining although the trailer may not fully convey that.

Music! and Movies! in the Month of May, 2015

1 06 2015

The first week of May I was still in Dublin, Ireland, on my Golden Week vacation, when my favorite group happened to be playing in town.

Only two days into the month, May was already great…  The rest of the musical activities of the month below.

As for movies, there was no movie I didn’t like and it kept getting better with my favorite for the month, The Lives of Others, coming at the very end.

Music!!

Movies!!

I loved Chef and The Theory of Everything and Dior and I was very interesting but this Chinese film was the most memorable if mostly for excellence in Gong Li‘s acting.
