Lunching in Sliema

21 05 2017

My vacation continued into the second day in Malta.  Did not do much in the morning except to walk around the apartment neighborhood including the neighboring Sliema district in search of a few necessities.  At 1 pm, headed to this bistro where I had made a reservation having read a few favorable reviews.

My lamb stew was fabulous; home cooking at its best.

Lunching in Valletta

14 05 2017

I hadn’t researched much as to where to eat in Malta during my recent stay but early in the morning of the day I was to be in Valletta, I wrote to one restaurant asking for a lunch reservation.  Because it was too close to the hour I was visiting, I did not receive a proper confirmation but I went anyway and had no problem getting in though the outside terrace was almost full having been occupied by a big Japanese (!) group.  That’s sometimes not a good sign but the restaurant was very fine.  Good food and service in a nice relaxed atmosphere.  All the wines I had were local.

Rabbit tortellacci.  Rabbit is one of the most popular meats in Maltese cuisine.

Around the restaurant.

Breakfast with a View and the Ferry Ride to Valletta

6 05 2017

While in Malta, I was staying in an apartment on the edge of a neighborhood called Gżira and it was managed by a hotel around the corner in the Sliema district.  I initially did not plan to use the hotel at all including having breakfast but upon arrival I was told they had upgraded me to include breakfast so off I went the first morning I was in Malta to get breakfast at the hotel.

But first the view outside my apartment window.  Nothing to boast about but very bright and sunny.

And my breakfast view.

Fast forward.  My first trip across the shore from Silema to Valletta, the capital city of Malta and a UNESCO World Heritage site, on a 10-minute ferry ride.

More to come.

Arriving in Rome FCO and Enjoying a Big Italian Dinner

30 04 2017

After a 12-hour flight from Seoul ICN, arrived in Rome FCO last night, was picked up at the airport, taken to my B&B near the airport, where I immediately had a big Italian dinner.  The popular restaurant attached to the B&B was packed with locals, mostly big family groups, its being a Saturday night before a long weekend.

My starter

Piazza Margherita as my main.

This girl kept chasing the house(?) dog.

Interestingly enough, the very nice B&B does not serve breakfast and the option is the above breakfast basket for 3 Euros!

Feasting in Ningbo, Part 4

26 04 2017

More food coming from Ningbo, China!

The city is one of major ports of China and they have great and serious seafood and we were taken to the right spot by our host.

Our neighbor’s food platter ^^

We had just as grand a fair.

An impressive display of fresh fish and seafood from which you can pick your dinner.

Gyoza! at the end

Time to eat again!

Our lunch in the ancient town of Cicheng in the historic Zou-Ma-Lou Restaurant.

Feasting in Ningbo, Part 2

19 04 2017

Since I did not take pictures of all the food that was served during the evening on my second night in Ningbo, China, it may not appear like a feast here.  Trust me.  It was.  Sorry cannot show you…!

It used to be that the Chinese never ate anything cold or raw. Times have changed and they served this sashimi plate as part of their Chinese dinner.

Another feature that’s different from before; this presentation, the decorative tomato and small portions of Chinese food.

Even the Chinese wine bottle is modern in design.

Important officials at this table.

Something I had never seen before. Young bamboo shoots cut sideways.

All good anyhow.
