Beautiful Streets of Birgu aka Vittoriosa

22 05 2017

The ancient fortified city of Birgu a.k.a. Vittoriosa on the south side of Valletta, the capital of Malta, turned out to be a gem partly because I went in the early evening when virtually no one else was around.  The streets and buildings are very well kept, it was very peaceful.

Arriving in Rome FCO and Enjoying a Big Italian Dinner

30 04 2017

After a 12-hour flight from Seoul ICN, arrived in Rome FCO last night, was picked up at the airport, taken to my B&B near the airport, where I immediately had a big Italian dinner.  The popular restaurant attached to the B&B was packed with locals, mostly big family groups, its being a Saturday night before a long weekend.

My starter

Piazza Margherita as my main.

This girl kept chasing the house(?) dog.

Interestingly enough, the very nice B&B does not serve breakfast and the option is the above breakfast basket for 3 Euros!

Homebound on the Chinese Bullet Train

27 04 2017

It was time for me to go home from Ningbo after spending three days in the Chinese city.

On the way in, our group was picked up at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport and was driven to Ningbo.  Since I had a later flight than most people, going back I was to travel solo on the high-speed train (my first!) the arrangement for which my host took care.

Arriving the Ningbo Railway Station.

Inside the building in the waiting area.

Going down to the platform.

My ride to Shanghai

Getting on and aboard the train which looked very similar to our shinkansen.

Arriving at the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

The train station is situated next to the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and from there was a cab ride to the other airport.

Arriving at the Pudong Airport.

In the departure hall.

My ride to Tokyo Haneda

Feasting in Ningbo, Part 1

18 04 2017

The Chinese know how to entertain when it comes to eating.  During the two working days we were in Ningbo, China, our group was constantly fed and fed very well I must say.

And I didn’t even capture everything.  And it was only lunch time!!

Arriving in Shanghai and Getting to Ningbo

17 04 2017

So I  just spent Friday + the weekend in China on business in a city I had never been to before.

Flying out of Narita was a breeze but once I arrived in Pudong, the international airport in Shanghai, things did not look so bright.

No photos allowed so I don’t have any but immigration was a total jam.  And who would’ve thought leaving the baggage claim area when I didn’t have any checked in luggage would be so time consuming.

Arrival hall. Really?

I had to take the inter-terminal shuttle which I had trouble finding to get to my meeting point with my host and other delegates that were participating in the same conference.

The shuttle

And it was a nice day in Shanghai as we left the airport to our hotel in Ningbo about three hours away.

Our ride

Restroom stop on the way.

Arrived at hotel, had dinner.

The following morning. A nice day!

So began my stay in Ningbo, China.

24+ Hours in London

15 04 2017

After about half an hour black cab journey from Liverpool Street Station to Paddington, checked into my hotel for a one-night stay.

Lovely color scheme

View from my room

The public terrace used as, if one wishes, a smoking area.

And then I stepped out for a visit to the Selfridges before my dinner appointment.

And then my dinner appointment wrote in to tell me he had lost his voice. Didn’t mind spending time in my hotel room for a change.

From TLL to STN

14 04 2017

Back to writing about my trip to Tallinn, Estonia which was followed by a very brief stop in London, England.

The travel between the two cities involved lots of firsts.

The line leading up to security. There is just one gate. Estonians being efficient, it wasn’t as bad as it looks but seeing this upon arriving at the airport was rather discouraging.

My ride from Tallinn to London. First time flying with the Irish LCC.

My seat was 1A. This was my view when I sat in my seat.

And looking out the window.

As the door closed. That would be my foot, the black thing on the floor.

And we flew into Stansted Airport to which I had never been before. Again a long line at immigration.  We left Tallinn at 12 noon and arrived in London at 1 pm local time after a three-hour flight.  Decided lunch at the airport was a good idea.

I then took the Stansted Express into London Liverpool Street Station. Another first.

Then a cab ride to my hotel in Paddington.
