Breakfasting in El Segundo and Onward to San Francisco

14 07 2017

It was great that during my recent business trip to the US, the day I was travelling from Los Angeles to San Francisco fell on a Sunday which allowed me to get together with a couple of high school friends living in the LA area to get some brunch together.  One of them even lives near LAX and her choice of venue in downtown El Segundo was perfect for me.

I was driven to LAX by one of my friends.  Took a Delta flight to SFO.

Arriving in San Francisco, taking the airtrain.

BART!

Spending the Day with Anna & Michel in LA

13 07 2017

During my recent brief visit to Los Angeles, I had made a point to see a friend or more a work associate who became a very good friend.  I had enough time on the Saturday I was there when Anna and her husband Michel made time for me to go out for lunch followed by an unplanned shopping expedition and a visit to their lovely home.

Breakfasting at 1 AM

12 07 2017

At the request of the younger travelmates on my recent trip to LA, our group went out to a diner that was still open after midnight that served pancakes and French toast.

I had passed by it earlier in the day.

And it looked like this at night.

Feeling still full from earlier, I just ordered ice cream which I was told was going to be two scoops.  They didn’t tell me each scoop was so huge.

Leaving on a Jet Plane and Arriving and Lunching in Los Angeles

30 06 2017

So I took off on another trip on Thursday, June 29 but before doing so, stopped by a local voting post to cast an absentee ballot for the upcoming election for the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.

This trip is an unusual one for me in that I am with a group of people including colleagues and people from other companies to go to a convention being held in LA this weekend.

Zipped to LA.  Our plane landed much earlier than scheduled and had to keep taxiing round and round the same route more than three times until our gate was ready.

Finally in and out of the terminal at LAX.

Our rooms were not ready so off to the Grand Central Market behind our hotel for some lunch.

Ordering lunch

Took a table near this nice bar (but didn’t buy from it) and waited for our lunch with a nice cup of cold craft beer.

Lunch is served.  Had a really good lamb burger.

Walk back to the hotel.

Checked in.

My view.

Breakfasting in Valletta, Malta

18 06 2017

This was my final day in Malta back in May when I set out to explore the capital city of Valletta for the last time earlier than on other days.  My main destination was St. John’s Co-Cathedral but before it opened, I had a couple of things to do in mind and one was going to “the market“.

My reading on the city told me that for some reason there was no “market” as you would normally find in other European cities but one guidebook told me that there was a covered market in Valletta.  I was running out of time but went to look for it hoping to catch some action and alas this is what I found…

Closed!

For apparent restoration…

It was some time before the cathedral opened so I decided to get somewhat more proper breakfast than I was planning to have and try some typical Maltese savories.  I knew just where to visit: Caffe Cordina.

Qassata with spinach and pastizz with ricotta cheese.

From TLL to STN

14 04 2017

Back to writing about my trip to Tallinn, Estonia which was followed by a very brief stop in London, England.

The travel between the two cities involved lots of firsts.

The line leading up to security. There is just one gate. Estonians being efficient, it wasn’t as bad as it looks but seeing this upon arriving at the airport was rather discouraging.

My ride from Tallinn to London. First time flying with the Irish LCC.

My seat was 1A. This was my view when I sat in my seat.

And looking out the window.

As the door closed. That would be my foot, the black thing on the floor.

And we flew into Stansted Airport to which I had never been before. Again a long line at immigration.  We left Tallinn at 12 noon and arrived in London at 1 pm local time after a three-hour flight.  Decided lunch at the airport was a good idea.

I then took the Stansted Express into London Liverpool Street Station. Another first.

Then a cab ride to my hotel in Paddington.

Glögg to Go

3 04 2017

Under the beautiful but bitterly cold sky of Tallinn, Estonia, “glögg to go” seemed like the perfect idea.

In a coffee cup with a straw. Brilliant.
