Things Bought for Self in the Baltics

28 09 2012

Going back to my Baltics trip in August, here are some (not all) of the things I bought for myself during the trip.

A girl can never own too many pairs of shoes. Bought in Tallinn, Estonia.

I have signed up with a personal trainer so I obviously needed new sneakers. Bought in Tallinn, Estonia.

Blue stuff from Riga, Latvia and Tallinn, Estonia.

Things purple and pink: a tea cozy, tea mats, lovely pig magnets that say it all. The tea mats are from Vilnius, Lithuania and the rest from Tallinn, Estonia.

Stationery from Riga, Latvia.

A silver necklace by an Estonian jewelry designer. Bought in Tallinn.

I always buy toothpaste whenever I’m travelling but not to be used on the road but to bring back home to use in the office. Russian toothpaste bought at the Central Market in Riga, Latvia and cleansing cream bought at Raeapteek, one of the oldest continuously running pharmacies in Europe, in Tallinn, Estonia.

Magnets from Riga, Latvia. For my fridge.

Extra! Gifts from my friend in Italy who joined my family on the trip.

Walking in the Old Town of Riga

2 09 2012

We had a whole free day in Riga, Latvia and we just casually walked around in the old town w/o really knowing what the right thing for us to do as a tourist was after having visited the central market.

Here is some of what I’ve seen in the beautiful old town of Riga, a registered Unesco World Heritage city, on that day.  I have excluded most of the art nouveau buildings I posted before.

Cats in Riga

1 09 2012

I always try to take pictures of cats when I’m travelling.  I just like them and like capturing their expressions.

Something from the past:-

Cats in Amsterdam

In Budapest

In Fes, Marrakech, and Essaouira

In different cities and villages of Bhutan

Sadly during my entire Baltic trip, while I saw a couple of cats in passing (including once from the bus near the border of Lithuania and Latvia, I think on the Latvian side), I was unable to get them on my camera.  I don’t know where they exist in the Baltics.  All domesticated and no stray cats??

Here is something else though from Riga: the famous black cat (well, two of them).

Cat House/Kaķu māja

And there is a counterpart dog that our guide told us was observing the cats…
