One Last Pint in Dublin

29 05 2015

On the day I was leaving Dublin, Ireland, I made one last stop at a hotel bar.

Thought of getting one last proper pint of Guinness but noticed that the bar carried a “craft beer” on tap.  During my visit, I saw many signs for craft beers everywhere.  Seems to be a world trend.

Irish Whiskey Time

27 05 2015

My friend Janis from New York who happened to be visiting Ireland at the same time as me took me, after a very satisfying modern Irish dinner together, to have my first (and the only) glass of Irish whiskey in Dublin.

The venue. The place actually used to be a school.

Going to the hotel bar. Drinking at school sounds just about right.

My glass of "Writer's Tears"

Loved my glass of “Writer’s Tears”.

Eating Out (with Janis!!) in Dublin #5

26 05 2015

I was thrilled when I found out that my friend Janis would be visiting Dublin on business at the same time as I was going to be in the capitol of Ireland.  We made plans to get together for a nice modern Irish meal.

Janis’ pick where I accidentally visited on the same trip earlier for lunch.

My bowl of cockles and mussels starter – my Molly Malone moment – as Janis put it. I didn’t even know what cockles were but these were delish.

I am missing my main dish photo and I cannot remember what it was now.

Experiencing the World of Guinness

25 05 2015

Guinness, or I guess the company that owns the brand, has done very well promoting and commercializing the Irish family name to a world brand.  But the “museum” in Dublin was much “more” than what I expected.

It’s clear that the company invested tons of money building the vast tourist attraction and continues to spend on maintaining the direct-marketing spot but it does come with a hefty entrance fee and a huge gift shop filled with Guinness-branded this and that designed to make you spread the word after you have spent your fortune there.

Below the more peaceful-looking regular brewery section of the property.
