Music!!

Movies!!

I loved Chef and The Theory of Everything and Dior and I was very interesting but this Chinese film was the most memorable if mostly for excellence in Gong Li‘s acting.

An Exception to the Rule

23 04 2015

Generally speaking, I like going to the movies by myself.  But recently I have been making an exception with a good pianist friend and we have seen several music films together and the last one we saw together was this.  We went on the opening day last week.

Whiplash

Whiplash

Over dinner at Lauderdale in Roppongi Hills where the theater was, we got to discussing it.

We concluded that the story must have been based on the Manhattan School of Music where my friend studied jazz piano.  This was due to the fact that she said there was a similarly fearsome instructor at the school who got fired for sexual harassment and the more she thought about it, there were many similarities in the film setting.

Anyway, I just checked if that was really the case but apparently not.  This was it.

Eclectic!  The first set of pix is from Boston where I was taken to a music supper club.  Very nice and groovy.

Wami Rin, Shinjuku

3 03 2013

Wami Rin is a Japanese restaurant with mostly fish menu on the east side of Shinjuku in central Tokyo.  I had been there on several occasions in the past, each time finding it very satisfying in terms of the food, service, and value.

For the first time in about a couple of years I went back with an English guest who I thought didn’t have any eating restrictions because we had meat the last time but as soon as we got to the restaurant, he told me he had gone vegan due to some illness he had suffered last year.  So much for great fish but we managed to enjoy our time together.

This is from my previous visit.

And this one from the very first visit, I think.
