Lunching and Breakfasting in Dubrovnik

29 05 2016

I went to a very popular restaurant, both amongst locals and tourists so I’ve read, for my second lunch in Dubrovnik, Croatia.  My expectations were really high so I was a bit disappointed by my dish but looking around, I saw what other people were eating and came to the conclusion that I just ordered the wrong dish (though for a restaurant that’s no excuse).

Now this was very very good.

Now this was very very good.

And this is from my last morning in town.  Fun.  Yum.

Lunching in Dubrovnik #1

23 05 2016

Did some research for a good, casual, seafood restaurant for my first lunch in the Old Town of Dubrovnik and duly found one and made a reservation in the morning.

Dining Out in Dubrovnik

19 05 2016

I sort of missed lunch on the day of travel from Zagreb to Dubrovnik so decided to have an early dinner in a rather fancy restaurant that was recommended everywhere.  Turned out to be full of Japanese tourists (partly because it was early like 6 pm which is not that early for Japan), myself included.  (I found out later that our Prince and Princess Akishino had dined there.)

The food was good.

Overcast but still light outside when I arrived at the restaurant.

All the wines were local as well as the olive oil and most of the cheese, I think.  The oysters were from Ston and they were smaller, rounder, and seemed flatter and less creamy than what I’m used to eating at home.  Not sure if they were the best.  The sea bass and the grilled vegetables on the other hand were excellent.

To Market! in Zagreb, Croatia, Part 2

15 05 2016

The covered, indoor part of Dolac, the main market in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, consists mostly of meat, dairy, and other processed food shops including pickles shops and bakeries.  I had read that there were fish shops but could not find any.  But what fun!

Lunching in Zagreb #2

8 05 2016

When you’re in a foreign land on vacation and it’s raining outside and you don’t want to do any sightseeing, I would be happy to spend long hours lunching. And having read that lunch is the most important meal of the day in Croatia, that’s what I intended to do when I visited this hotel restaurant.
