To Market! in Yangon, Part 3

9 12 2016

You see so many ladies and sometimes children (girls and boys) wearing this yellowish paint-like thing on their faces in Myanmar.

I found its source while visiting the Bogyoke Aung San Market in Yangon.

At this shop, the shopkeeper told me she used the cream that came in a fat jar, the third one from left.  As the sign reads, “thanakka” or “thanaka” is the name of the plant/paste.

At another shop, I saw these barks.  The shop owner told me women commonly use these mixed with water to paint their faces in the same way the cream is used.

I bought several bottles of cream from her for myself as well as to give to my friends. Have not tried it yet.
