Eating Out Japanese in the Month of April, 2015

27 04 2015

I was going to do a sushi post but remembered that there was a notable non-sushi Japanese dining I did with a London-residing Australian guest this month so decided to expand.

But first the real-deal sushi.

And then an upscale izakaya dinner with the aforementioned Australian guest.

And an unagi lunch from last week.

And a sushi lunch from earlier today.

Finally a take-away “obento” lunch box that I bought at a “depachika” near my office in the morning and had at my desk for lunch.  Always fun.

I miss Japanese food so much! What is in the 6th picture? The clear liquid with green leaf and white oblong things in it?

That’s a clear soup being served when you move onto eating sushi from sashimi. There is a piece of cooked “tai” (red seabream) that’s good enough to be eaten as sushi in the soup.

So you generally eat sushi first and then sashimi?

No, the other way round. Sashimi first and then sushi. My sushi resto serves soup when you’re done with sashimi and start ordering sushi which I guess is normal because you always get soup with rice. And generally speaking in Japanese cuisine you don’t eat rice until you’re done drinking but I carry on drinking throughout sushi as well. ^^

Didn’t know all that! Very interesting, thank you 🙂
