I guess I prefer the deeper wintery colors, the blues and purples.

A Hole-in-the-Wall Italian

22 10 2014

I rarely go out for lunch at work opting to buy something to take away on my way in in the morning and eating at my desk.  The other day a lunch appointment got cancelled and since I hadn’t bought anything, decided to venture out.  I have been working in the same neighborhood for the last three years or so but I am still not very familiar with restaurants that surround us which are not many.

Settled on a friendly-looking, smallish pizzeria on a back street that was still open for lunch after 2 pm.

All the while I was there two Italian and one Japanese guys were cooking away.  I shall return for an evening meal sometime.

Unagi with a Star

21 10 2014

When asked what I wanted to eat for birthday by parents, I said “unagi“.  I got to choose the restaurant and I chose the right one.  Another Michelin experience in this family-run establishment, founded in 1835, with friendly service and the convenience of being able to reserve a table which is rare for unagi restaurants.

Constantine the Cat

20 10 2014

My best friend’s cat, supposedly a Russian Blue or something close, is named after Constantine the Great (if I’m not mistaken – I don’t remember anymore).  He has recently found a perfect new “tree” to hang out at.

There is an edible plant called “matatabi” which apparently cats are crazy about.  I am totally unfamiliar with it.

Matatabi, pickled for human consumption.

Placed right in front of him but this day, he decided not to react.

A tiny piece of matatabi which is enough to make him jump with joy placed right in front of him but this day, he decided not to react.

A peaceful Sunday afternoon at my friend’s new residence.

Birthday, Myanmar, Wine and Cheese

18 10 2014

My two good friends and I mixed all of them up last week.  The birthday was mine.

Dinner at a Myanmar (Burmese) cuisine restaurant, Tawara, at the start of the evening.

And then we went back to my place, about 15 minutes away on foot, for a some cheese and wine.

It wasn’t planned but we finished the evening with something stronger, something I brought back from Poland.
