Sunday Cooking Time

29 06 2014

Since I am going out tonight, I thought I would do something easy for lunch this Sunday.  “Something easy” for me in a lot of cases would be when I don’t have to use heat to cook.  This was one of those recipes.

It's lunch but it's Sunday. ^^

It's a salad kind of dish that is Japanese-Chinese.

The recipe didn't say I had to use fresh wasabi but I did anyway.

Nice! Should probably have it chilled.

The recipe is by Wu Wen originally from Beijing now residing in Tokyo and who has been successfully writing cookbooks in Japanese and promoting her line of cooking products.  This one was published on the Asahi Shimbun.

A bit early but summing up my rather limited music activities for this month with everything happening in Shibuya.

And went to see very talented, multi-tasking Kishi Bashi play Club Quattro the night before the Tower Records in-store event.  Great performance, very fun.  Here is something he did for a Seattle radio station.  It’s the same band as on this tour.

The Last of the Mango Indulgence

27 06 2014

This is the one remaining mango pastry from Le Pain de Joël Robuchon I had yet to try.

At the boulangerie, the sign reads that you have to ask one of the clerks to bring the pastry out for you as it is not displayed like other pastries, the reason being that it needs to be kept refrigerated so that the whipped cream will not melt.

The croissant was much lighter and less buttery than the shop's regular croissant.

The pastry is filled with three kinds of cream: whipped, custard, and mango.

Happy Friday. 🙂

My Addiction to Green Tea Flavor

26 06 2014

Green-tea-flavored anything has been somewhat of an addiction of mine for some time now.  About three weeks ago I came across this fairly new product (the one in the middle of the page at this link) and totally fell for it.

The photo does not quite do justice but the “green tea pudding” made of soy milk (which makes the thing a tofu) comes in a plastic cup that doesn’t want to let go of the tofu if you try to shake it out of the cup.  I have yet to get it out perfectly.

It tastes like pudding but feels like tofu.  Love it.

It’s All About Tofu

25 06 2014

Curiosity got the better of me this morning and I finally decided to try this bento box for lunch from a tofu specialist.

photo

What looks like a meat patty is made of tofu instead of ground meat.  Below that is excessive amount of fresh yuba done ankake style.  Underneath running across the box is a bed of steamed rice.

Sooooo yum but this much yuba worries me as it is very high in calories, more so than tofu, which is the reason why I never tried it before…
