Streets of Beacon Hill, Boston

I wrote about Acorn Street in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood several days ago.  The same neighborhood has other streets named after “nuts” that are quite charming.

Boston Cream Pie

27 05 2014

I had zero knowledge of this famous “pie” which is not a pie but a cake until my Bhutanese friend living in Oxford, Connecticut told my mother and me about it on the day she and her German husband drove up to Boston to see us.

Boston cream pie is supposed to have originated at the historically notable Parker Hotel. The hotel still stands as Omni Parker House in downtown Boston.

We had also ordered "Parker rolls" which I was under the wrong impression were similar to canolli, the Italian pastry. They are just plain, rather dry-looking bread.
