It’s not often that one gets to go to a wholesale market unless you make an effort. I live in Tokyo but I have never been to the famous and apparently very exciting fish market in Tsukiji though it does not favor the distraction of tourists and is taking measures to somewhat discourage and limit more tourists from coming. I should actually go before they decide to move the market to another location which may happen in the near future.
The wholesale market I went to while in Amsterdam was Flora Holland in Aalsmeer just outside of Amsterdam. It is the largest flower market in the world. By the time I got there it was past 8 am so not necessarily the busiest time but still enough action going on by the auction clocks as well as on the vast floor space where flowers are moved around.
Quite fascinating.
